2. About ChatX

ChatX is built on the Matrix protocol and uses self-hosted infrastructure, including Matrix Synapse servers, to provide secure, real-time communication.

3. Information We Collect

We may collect and process the following categories of data:

• Account Data: Username, email address (if provided)
• Message Data: Messages and media sent through ChatX
• Technical Data: IP address, device information, connection logs
• Usage Data: Basic operational metrics for service reliability

4. End-to-End Encryption

ChatX supports end-to-end encryption (E2EE). When enabled:

• Messages are encrypted on your device
• Only intended recipients can decrypt messages
• We cannot access or read encrypted content

If E2EE is not enabled in a room, messages may be processed and stored on our servers in readable form.

5. Data Retention

Messages and related data are retained for a maximum period of 3 days to support synchronization across multiple devices. After this period, data may be deleted or no longer accessible.

Certain technical logs may be retained for a limited period for security and operational purposes.

6. How We Use Your Data

• To provide and maintain the ChatX service
• To enable message delivery and synchronization
• To monitor performance and improve reliability
• To detect, prevent, and address security issues or abuse

7. Push Notifications

ChatX uses push notification services to deliver messages in real time:

• Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google)
• Self-hosted Sygnal push gateway

These services may process limited metadata (such as device identifiers and notification tokens) necessary to deliver notifications. Message content is not shared with push providers when encryption is enabled.

8. Data Storage and Security

All ChatX infrastructure is operated on servers managed by Advantage Group Australasia. We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), access controls, and monitoring to protect your data.

9. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Data may only be shared:

• With service providers strictly required to operate the service (e.g., push notifications)
• When required by law or legal process
• To protect the security and integrity of the platform

Depending on your jurisdiction (including GDPR), you have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Correct inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data
